Chapter 4 Am I Your First Man

Lucy told herself, “You can be just fine on your own.” Perhaps the fact that they were once married would remain a secret forever. Or perhaps, by the time it was known, he would have already married someone else. That woman who he cherished to the extreme. Emily? She knew how much it hurt to crush her budding feelings with her own hands. But that pain, it couldn’t compare to losing her parents. She never wanted to blame anyone. It was all fate. But there were moments… No, there were many times—when she lay helplessly on this bed, thinking of the fact that she had a husband. When she cried into her pillow until it was soaked, she wished Christopher would hold her, comfort her, even if it was just a façade. But… All she got was a divorce agreement. With her sanity intact, she choked back her emotions and reminded herself, “Lucy, it’s okay.” “He never belonged to you.” Once she accepted that, she quickly adjusted her feelings and resumed packing her things. “Lucy.” “Yes?” A deep, unexpected voice called out, and her response was instinctive. “Could you please bring me pajamas?” His voice was sultry and seductive. Lucy’s heart raced as she heard it, but she quickly replied, “Sure.” Christopher never looked at her, but that didn’t mean Lucy hadn’t stolen glances at him before. Now, however, as she chose a light-colored set of pajamas for him, she dared not lift her gaze. When she approached, the door opened to reveal a moderately wide gap. He stood there, a white towel wrapped around his waist, his perfectly sculpted V-line on full display. He seemed utterly unfazed, as if he didn’t mind being seen at all. Lucy’s face turned crimson, as though she wanted to bury it in her chest. “Lucy, where’s my underwear?” “Huh?” The man’s voice sent her mind buzzing even louder. What? Underwear? Her heart nearly jumped out of her chest. Her face shifted from red to pale and back again, her lips moving slightly several times without forming any words. Something so private—she really hadn’t thought of that. And, did he really want her to help him get it? She swore, in her 22 years of life, she had never fetched underwear for a man. “Sorry, I don’t have the habit of going commando under my pants, so…” So what? Her mind couldn’t keep up. Christopher glanced at her face, flushed as though it might bleed. He smiled helplessly. “Please help me get my underwear.” “Oh.” She didn’t fully understand, but she didn’t refuse. After all, anything he said always seemed to make sense. Christopher felt a bit uncomfortable, unconsciously lowered his head to look at his abdomen, then frowned and looked at her. “Aren’t you going yet?” “Oh, right away.” She quickly turned around in a daze, rifling through several drawers but failing to find his underwear. Finally, on the side where she put her underwear, she spotted an unopened black box. Now, she was at a bit of a loss. But then she thought, she just took the whole box over. He was still standing there. She had already handed him a shirt, but he still hadn’t bothered to put it on. She had to admit, his bare upper body was enough to make anyone drool, but considering they were already divorced, his behavior was completely out of line. Even so, she didn’t dare to argue. Lowering her head, she handed him the box. “Here.” “Mm? Haven’t they been washed?” “What?” “You’re not going to make me wear underwear that’s not washed, are you?” “…” “You knew I was coming back a month ago. Even though our marriage has been indifferent, as a wife, shouldn’t you have prepared clean clothes for your husband?” “…” Lucy was truly speechless. She hadn’t thought of that. She hadn’t… His ink-like deep eyes stared at her, questioning, “Am I your first man?”
