I used my skills to impersonate a hacker and
siphon off the last of the money in the family
accounts.
Then I hacked the system and hard–coded
some fake user data in the background.
Sarah ran the code as I instructed. The users
were excited, saying the hackers had returned
their money.
Sarah was thrilled. “To be honest, I’d noticed
your dad looking for high–achieving girls from
top universities. I was always worried about
my position, so I chose to sell you out.
But now, your dad must be so excited for our
baby!”
I nodded. “That’s great. Now I’ll only have you
as a good friend.”
After that, I said I needed to use the
bathroom. Sarah was too caught up in her
own excitement to notice anything.
I slipped away and went straight to the
airport. Then I started living the life of a rich
woman, traveling around the world.
An hour later, I saw the news about my family.
Customers could see the money in their
accounts, but they couldn’t withdraw it.
The customers reported it to the financial
regulators, and a bunch of cops showed up at
my house to investigate. But by then, my
family didn’t have a cent.
The customers‘ money had also been stolen
by the hackers. All the money in their
accounts was just numbers.

My family owed enough money to bankrupt a
country. My dad couldn’t face it, and
eventually killed himself.
I don’t know what happened to Sarah and the
baby, but I’m sure it wasn’t good.
By then, I was in Iceland, watching the aurora
borealis. From now on, I was just a lonely rich
woman. Thinking about it, life seemed pretty
promising.
