Chapter 3 That Woman Calls
When his fingertips touched her panties, Eliana couldn’t help moaning. Suddenly she remembered she was carrying their baby. Startled, her desire evaporated. She hurriedly stopped him.
“I–I just took a shower. You go ahead and with yours,” she said.
She closed her knees and jumped down from the countertop.
But Samuel caught her arm, his eyes full of desire. “Take another shower fater and I’ll help you wash,”
Eliana still refused, staunchly pulling her arm from his grasp.
“I don’t want to,” she said, her lips firm, “You shower alone. I’ll wait for you in bed.”
She stepped past her husband and out of the bathroom.
Samuel was never one to force himself on others.
Especially since his wife was a whole decade younger than him. He often chose to respect her wishes.
If she didn’t want to, he wouldn’t insist. He started showering properly by himself.
Back in the bedroom, Eliana thought of the pregnancy report hidden in the closet. She was torn again about whether to tell him
“Should she just say it? Would he be happy? What if he isn’t?‘
As she got up to get the pregnancy report, there was a knock on the bedroom door and Nora’s voice came through.
“Excuse me, Mrs. Nelson, is Mr. Nelson there?”
Eliana pulled on a dressing gown and opened the door. “What is it, Nora?” she asked.
Nora held out a cellphone, saying, “Mrs. Nelson, this is Mr. Nelson’s phone that he left on the dining table. But it keeps ringing on and off. What should I do?” She offered it to Eliana. “Mrs. Nelson, could you give it to him?”
“Oh, I see,” she said, “of course.”
Just as Eliana took the phone, it began ringing again.
The name “Chloe” flashing on the screen instantly upset her.
She had played gAmy on Samuel’s phone before and looked at his call logs, but had never seen this name.
Who is Chloe?
The ringing stopped. Just as Eliana sat back on the bed with the phone, Samuel came out of the bathroom wrapped in a
towel.
The phone in her hand suddenly started ringing again.
She handed it to him with a hint of sarcasm. “Your call.”
Samuel took the phone and glanced at the screen. Though he frowned, he answered it.
Eliana really wanted to know who this Chloe was.
She stood up and quietly moved closer to him, to listen near his ear.
Samuel saw his young wife’s actions but didn’t turn away.
The next second, a woman’s sweet voice came through the speaker.
“Sam, can you come over right now? I twisted my ankle and it hurts so bad. I can’t move.”
When Eliana heard the woman’s voice, affectionately calling her husband “Sam“, she could have plonked herself right there
on the floor.
What upset her even more was Samuel’s patient reply. “Yes, okay. I’ll be right there.”
Samuel hung up and told Eliana, “Go to bed, Eliana. I won’t be long.”

She couldn’t accept this at all. Anger surged up inside her.
“What? You’re going to see this her?” Eliana tried to control her voice. “She said she’s twisted her ankle and asked you to go over, and you’re really going?” This was too much to Eliana.
Samuel didn’t want to explain. He put down his cellphone and turned to change clothes.
Eliana followed him, extremely agitated.
“Samuel, what do you mean? Who’s this Chloe? Is she the woman you brought home this afternoon? What exactly is your relationship with her? Tell me.”
Samuel finished changing but still didn’t want to explain. He pulled on his sports jacket and shrugged. “Don’t worry,” he said and patted Eliana’s shoulder. “But no need to wait up.”
As Samuel tumed to leave, Eliana stepped in front of him and cried out, “Don’t you owe me an explanation? Why are you leaving me to see another woman late at night? What do you take me for?”
“No, it can’t be.”
‘Her husband was so good, always so good to her. He couldn’t possibly abandon her for another woman.”
Eliana desperately tried to convince herself.
But her husband was determined to leave.
Seeing his wife angry yet eager to know the truth, Samuel pressed his lips together. Even though it pained him, he still said
- it. “Eliana, please brace yourself. In a little while, we’ll have to go to city hall to get divorced.”
