Chapter 6 Things Are Already Complicated
Chloe was caught off guard, and held her face while staring at Eliana in disbelief. “You dare hit me? Do you have a death
wish?”
Chloe’s driver, noticing the commotion, quickly got out of the car and came forward to help.
Eliana stepped back, pointing at the driver and shouting, “Don’t you dare come closer! My husband is the Samuel Nelson. If you touch me, you’ll wish you were dead.”
Hearing Samuel Nelson’s name, the driver instantly became fearful and could only lower his gaze and stand back,
Chloe angrily shouted at the driver, “What are you standing there for? Hit her!”
The driver timidly replied, “She’s Mrs. Nelson, Ms. Howard. I don’t dare.”
“Useless! Chloe cried in frustration.
Her face was contorted with rage, her makeup ruined.
People walking past glanced at the women arguing and hurried on. Chloe glared viciously at Eliana. “I won’t let you off that easily”
She then got back into the car, her driver rushing to follow, and they drove away.
Eliana stood still, watching the car disappear. With Chloe gone, her pretense of toughness vanished. She stumbled over to a bench near the gate of the university, feeling like a huge stone was lodged in her chest, making it hard to breathe.
Meanwhile, in the backseat of her car, Chloe dialed Samuel’s number.
As soon as the call connected, she cried, “Sam, can you come over after work? That little wife of yours found me today and even hit me.”
Samuel frowned at the phone. “What did you say?”
“Sam, I know I’m putting you in a difficult position, but I don’t want this. If only back then you hadn’t-”
His response was immediate. “I’ll come over now,” he said, and ended the call.
Samuel felt the old guilt rise, knowing he had wronged Chloe in the past. He quickly grabbed his coat and left the office.
As he walked, he called Eliana.
Sitting on the bench, Eliana looked at her phone, hesitated for a moment, but still answered.
As soon as the call connected, Samuel’s voice came through, filled with exasperation. “Eliana, for God’s sake, how long are you going to keep this up? Our issues are between us. Why did you go looking for Chloe? And you even hit her?
Eliana felt confused. “What are you talking about?”
“Listen to me very carefully. Do not cause any more trouble for Chloe. Things are already complicated.”
Eliana was stunned for a moment.
“That’s all for now. I’m hanging up.”
Eliana couldn’t react or explain, Samuel had already hung up.
‘So that woman is playing the victim?”
Bullshit.
That bitch is the one came to my university looking for trouble, and now she is twisting the story.
Eliana was furious. She got up off the bench, stubbornly holding back her hurt feelings, turned, and walked back through the gates.
For the next couple of days, she stayed on campus without going home, and didn’t send Samuel any messages or calls.
Her husband didn’t reach out to check on her either.
By Friday, a buzz filled the campus–Professor Nelson’s highly anticipated lecture was about to begin.

Eliana sat at her desk in the dorm room, lost in thought. Her roommate, Layla Walker. go! Professor Nelson’s lecture is about to start.”
Eliana didn’t move an inch. “You guys go ahead. I’m not going.”
, what’s wrong? Let’s
“What? You’re not going? It’s Professor Nelson’s lecture! No universities across the country get this opportunity. Plus, the lecture’s in the grand hall, big enough for the whole school. How come you’re not going?”
“I’m not feeling well,” Eliana said.
Layla immediately looked concerned, “What’s wrong?”
Eliana shook her head. “It’s nothing, you guys go ahead. I’m not interested.”
Layla was a bit perplexed. Normally, Eliana, who always loved learning, would love to attend the esteemed professor’s lectures. Why was she acting so weird?
With no time to dispute, Layla didn’t push further. “Alright then, stay here. I’m going to the lecture.”
Eliana didn’t appear to be listing. “Mm–hmm,” she muttered.
Now she was the only one left in the dorm room.
Actually, she really wanted to attend Samuel’s lecture.
She remembered last year’s event vividly. Samuel had stood on stage, looking impeccable in his Hugo Boss suit, effortlessly charming the entire department–including her.
Back then, she was sitting at her desk watching him with everyone else, gazing at him with adoration, desperately wanting to get closer to him, to tell him in person that she liked him. Liked him? She felt a stirring down below at the memory.
Of course, at that time, Eliana never dreamed one day she’d be his wife.
Thinking about how the past six months of marriage had given her so much happiness and sweetness, she wasn’t going to give up just like that.
Even if Samuel told her directly that the position of Mrs. Nelson belonged to someone else, she wouldn’t let him go. Her marriage was her decision.
Relaxing in the dorm, Eliana slowly fell asleep.
She was eventually woken up by her three roommates.
“Professor Nelson is so handsome!” said Layla, ecstatic. “Standing on the stage speaking, he’s like a god.” She gushed. “How can there be such a perfect man in this world?”
“Yeah, I know!” said Amy, another roommate, “I secretly took loads of photos of him. One day,” she announced, “Professor Nelson shall be my husband.”
“Professor Nelson is sooo dishy, he has to become a celebrity,” Layla said.
“How could a celebrity match Professor Nelson?” Hannah chimed in, “He’s perfect as he is now–CEO of the E&S Nelson Corporation and the richest man in the country. What woman in the world could be worthy of such a man.”
Hannah suddenly looked at Eliana. “Professor Nelson’s last name is the same as Eli’s, and his company is called E&S Nelson Corporation,” she said, “do you think he could be fated for our little I–don’t–want–to–go–to–his–lectures, here?” They all looked at Eliana lying on the bed watching them.
Layla became animated. “Yeah, Eli, not only do you share the same last name with him, but Eli’s name also naturally fits into Professor Nelson’s company name. It really does seem like fate!”
Seeing Eliana was awake, Layla, Hannah, and Amy sat down together beside her. Amy asked, “Hey, Eli. Do you know Professor Nelson?”
