The commotion outside was deafening–even the soundproofed walls of the mobile OR couldn’t muffle it. Brynn’s hand wavered mid–needle insertion as the gunshot rang out. A millimeter off, and the Flowing Technique could’ve shredded the patient’s nerves.
Taking a deep breath and calming herself down, she prepared to continue with the acupuncture. This was moment, and there was no room for error.
Outside the mobile operating room, Fred impatiently shouted, “Dr. Everett, get out here!”
Most crucial
Dallas at the door begged desperately. “Officer, please–you can’t go in! I’m begging you, just give Dr. Everett more time! I’m the father–1 consent to her operating on my son!”
“Shut up,” Fred said impatiently as he kicked Dallas, sending him tumbling to the ground, unable to get up for a long time.
Fred turned back to the OR voice dripping with menace. “Last chance–come out now, or I drag you out. I’m being nice because you’re a woman. Don’t test me.”
Brynn, who was performing the acupuncture, ignored him. She didn’t have time to deal with these people right now.
Fred’s face twisted with rage. “Ignoring me? Fine. Let’s see how brave you are when I’m done with you-
Just as Fred stepped over Dallas to storm into the OR, Gary rushed forward and blocked his path “Stop!” “No way in hell I’m letting this thug sabotage Brynn’s procedure, he thought.
Gary said, “Officer, I’m the dean of Panacea Medical School and a Biopharma Research Alliance member. That woman inside is one of our faculty–no criminal. I’ll stake my professional reputation on it. At least investigate properly before breaking protocol.”
“Biopharma Research Alliance?” Fred scoffed, rolling his eyes
“I’ll have you know, my uncle is the police chief!” Fred sneered, puffing out his chest. “Even the head of the Biopharma Research Alliance would have to show me respect today!”
Gary’s face twisted with frustration, but there was nothing he could do. Power always trumped justice, and he couldn’t risk the futures of all the students at Panacea Medical School. If he pushed back too hard, every aspiring doctor here would face
retaliation.
Triumphant, Fred smirked and shoved past Cary, strutting into the mobile operating room. His eyes lit up when he saw Brynn. “Listen, sweetheart. Why don’t you come quietly? I’d hate to get rough with you”
His hand shot out to grab Brynn, but before he could even brush her sleeve. Brynn moved like lightning. She seized his wrist, twisted it behind his back, and–flick–a silver needle pricked the base of his neck.
Fred’s face went white. “Y–you!” “His voice shook. One needle shouldn’t paralyze someone–this was like some action movie stunt! he thought. “Fix this now! He screamed.
Brynn ignored Fred. ‘Men like him–corrupt, unethical–weren’t worth her breath, he thought. She had lives to save.
Seeing that Brynn didn’t take him seriously at all, Fred was so angry that he was about to explode. “Get in here and arrest her!” he shouted. He didn’t believe that Brynn would really dare to do anything to him.
“How dare you assault the police! You’re done for!” He snarled at Brynn, eyes filled with malice.
Hearing Fred’s words, the police outside filed in. Seeing them approaching. Brynn frowned.
Before she could react, a gasp arose from outside, “Oh my god, the police chief is here!
