Chapter 138

Victoria said, “The Johnson family in Portmare? Do they have a branch in Portmare?”
Victoria tried hard to remember. It seemed there was a side branch in Portmare, but it came from Joshua’s brother and some mistress he had outside the family.

Technically, that made them distant relatives at best. Moreover, Joshua had recently made a public announcement cutting all ties with them.
However, she remembered that when she first came to Portmare, the so–called “distant sister–in–law” had called her, claiming to have found traces of the Divine Doctor in Portmare.
For the sake of the clues she provided, Victoria felt that she could give them a chance.
Thinking this, Victoria took out her phone and made a call.
At the same time, Chase’s mother, Eleanor, was pacing back and forth at the police station, looking furious. “Rape? She’s my son’s girlfriend!
“It’s just a little spat between lovers. Do you have to call it ‘rape‘?”
Eleanor was so angry that she stood up and slammed her hand on the table. “Release my son now!”
“Hey! You’re in a police station, not your house. Who are you yelling at?” one of the officers said.
Faced with the officer’s frowning reprimand, Eleanor sat down awkwardly and muttered, “This must be a misunderstanding.”
“Whether it’s a misunderstanding or not is not for you to decide.” The officer said with a blank face, “The evidence is conclusive. Unless the victim is willing to forgive him, we have no right to release him.”
Eleanor’s face turned ugly. She thought, ‘Brynn should have felt lucky that Chase liked her. How dare she call the cops on
him?‘
She said, “Then call her now. I’ll talk to her.”
“Sorry, we can’t just disturb the victim.” The officer sneered. He thought, ‘No wonder her son would do such a thing. Look at this woman. She’s still acting so arrogant after what her son did.’
Eleanor thought, ‘Damn, how can I get Brynn to drop the charges if you don’t call her?‘
Eleanor was so angry that she wanted to curse, but the police remained indifferent. She had no choice but to use her connections to smooth things over.
However, for some reason, several of the wealthy ladies she was close to immediately ignored her after hearing what had happened.
Little did Eleanor know that the painful experiences of the Everett family and Kylie had led to a consensus among the wealthy ladies in Portmare–never mess with Brynn.
Eleanor was fuming inside when her phone rang.
She thought it was one of her old friends who agreed to help her, but when she picked up the phone, she found it was an
unknown number.
With nowhere else to vent her fury, she picked up the phone without a second thought and yelled, “If it’s not urgent, don’t call me this early. Don’t you know what basic manners are?”

After venting enough, she threatened, “I’m warning you, if you dare call me again to harass me, I’ll have someone kill you?
Victoria, who had just gotten through the call and been inexplicably yelled at, felt speechless.
She said coldly, “Tell me, how are you going to kill me?”
Upon hearing this voice, Eleanor froze for a moment. She thought, ‘Wait, isn’t she the lady from the Johnson family in Eaglemont?‘
Thinking of what she had just said, Eleanor’s face turned pale, and she broke out in a cold sweat. “Mrs. Victoria Johnson, I can explain. I just thought-”
Victoria said, “No need to explain. I thought that Joshua cutting ties with you was a bit too much, but now it seems that it was the wisest decision he ever made.
“Otherwise, with distant relatives like you who are so arrogant and domineering, the Johnson family’s reputation would be ruined.”
After saying that, Victoria hung up the phone.
Eleanor was completely dumbfounded. She tried to call back and explain that it was a misunderstanding, only to find that she had been blocked and couldn’t get through at all.
Eleanor felt extremely aggrieved.
