Brynn gathered her things and headed to the Everett Group. She’d expected some chaos, but she didn’t expect it to be this bad.
When she arrived, the receptionist was actually dozing off. It had never happened before.
Brynn tapped the reception desk. The receptionist yawned without even looking up. “It’s not time for work yet. Come back after nine.”
Brynn chuckled, “It’s already eight fifty–five. Are you seriously asking me to wait five more minutes?”
The receptionist jolted awake at the familiar voice. “Oh, Ms. Everett. Sorry, I was just so sleepy.” She tidied her hair and then asked, “Didn’t you resign, Ms. Everett?”
“I’m here to wrap up my work,” Brynn replied, but she couldn’t help asking, “What’s going on with you?”
It had only been a day, but the Everett Group seemed to have completely relaxed its standards.
“The Everett Group is about to go under. I’ve already found a new job, so…” The receptionist looked a little embarrassed. “Ms. Everett, everyone knows what happened with you. Mr. Everett was way out of line!
“You’re the reason the company grew to its current size. Now that you’re gone, the shareholders are pulling out, and we have to find new places to work.”
In the past two days, the number of people resigning from the Everett Group had skyrocketed.
After getting a sense of the situation, Brynn nodded and took the elevator straight to her office. But as soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she heard loud arguing.
“You’re all just Brynn’s lackeys. She didn’t take you with her when she left, so why are you still protecting her?” It was Kylie’s voice. “What’s the big deal if I threw her stuff? Mind your own business!”
The shrill voice was followed by the sound of things being smashed on the ground. Brynn frowned and quickened her pace.
“Miss Everett, that’s way out of line!” Jenna said angrily. “Even though Mrs. Johnson resigned, these are still her personal belongings. What gives you the right to throw them away?”
As Jenna moved to gather the rest of Brynn’s things, Kylie grabbed her arm. “Her stuff? In the company, it’s the company’s property!”
Kylie was determined to use Brynn as an example to assert her authority. She knew how popular Brynn was in the company, and most of the people who had resigned in the past two days were because of that woman.
Kylie thought, ‘Humph, let them quit. They’re all just Brynn’s lackeys. The sooner they leave, the better. Then the company will be mine to control. As for the remaining lackeys…
Kylie narrowed her eyes at Jenna. “Jenna, I remember you used to be Brynn’s assistant, right?”
“So what if I was?” Jenna retorted.
“You’re an employee of the company, not just Brynn’s personal assistant!” Kylie grabbed Jenna’s chin roughly. “Since you re so loyal to her, why don’t you leave with her?”
Kylie pushed Jenna to the ground and wiped her hands on her clothes, a clear act of humiliation.
Jenna fell to the floor, her eyes wide with humiliation. “You…”

“What are you going to do about it? You’re fired!” Kylie raised her chin and scanned the room. “Is there anyone else who wants to speak up for Brynn?”
The rest of the project team looked frustrated. They had wanted to quit ever since Brynn left. But they had poured their hearts into this project and didn’t want to give it up so easily.
Seeing everyone’s dejected faces, Kylie felt a surge of satisfaction.
“Wow, you are so arrogant. Just firing people on a whim. Kylie, have you ever studied law?” Brynn’s cold voice rang out from behind Kylie, who jumped in surprise.
Jenna’s face lit up with joy at the sight of Brynn. “Mrs. Johnson!”
Brynn smiled at Jenna and helped her up from the floor. “According to labor laws, if an employee is fired without cause, they can apply for arbitration and demand compensation from the company.”
Brynn tilted her head and smiled at Kylie, “Kylie, you’re really generous.”
“What compensation? She was siding with an outsider and talking back to her boss. Why shouldn’t I fire her?” Kylie sneered, then looked Brynn up and down. “And what are you doing here? Get out!”
Brynn rolled her eyes, about to retort, when Randy’s voice boomed. “You ungrateful girl! What nonsense are you spewing?”
