Chapter 55
Kylie thought Randy was on her side and was about to gloat. But then she heard him snap, “Apologize to Brynn!”
Kylie was confused. “Dad, what are you…”
“Shut up!” Randy cut her off sharply, his face cold and unyielding. “Did you hear me? Apologize!”
Kylie had no idea what was going on. Yet, Randy was well aware of what was happening with the Everett Group.
He’d thought Brynn was just some nobody, but he’d seriously underestimated her influence in the company.
Now, if they wanted the Everett Group to bounce back, he must have Brynn come back.
“What are you waiting for? Apologize!” Randy urged again.
Kylie felt so wronged, thinking, ‘Why should I apologize? I haven’t said anything wrong!
But she didn’t dare go against her dad, so she choked out an apology through tears, “Brynn, I’m sorry…
“I don’t deserve you call me like that, Miss Everett,” Brynn said coolly, cutting Kylie off.
She didn’t know what Randy was up to, but she knew his and Kylie’s act all too well. An apology? Just crocodile tears.
“Brynn, I know you’re mad at me. I admit I was out of line at the party the other day,” Randy said, ignoring Brynn’s cold expression.

He put on his best fatherly smile. “We’re still family. I apologize to you. Can you stop making a fuss and come back to the company?”
Only if Brynn came back would the shareholders continue to invest. If not, Randy would never be groveling like this.
Brynn wasn’t surprised and refused flatly, “Sorry, no deal.”
With that, she placed the USB drive in her hand on the table. “Here are the company files. I’m returning them. From now on, I have nothing to do with the Everett Group.”
She started to leave with Jenna, but after a few steps, she stopped and looked at Kylie with a half–smile. “Oh, and make sure Jenna gets her severance pay.”
“You…” Kylie’s eyes turned red with anger. “Brynn, just you wait! I’m pregnant with Chase’s baby.”
Brynn’s face remained expressionless as she continued to lead Jenna away. Seeing her words fall on deaf ears, Kylie got even angrier.
She snapped, “Do you think you can keep showing off? I’ll be Mrs. Johnson sooner or later. What about you? Your real dad is in the hospital, barely hanging on. You’re not just a country bumpkin. You’re a fatherless brat!”
Only then did Brynn’s steps falter slightly at the mention of her real parents. Randy, on the other hand, felt a strange discomfort.
He wasn’t her real dad, but he was her adoptive father. Hearing Kylie’s words felt like a curse on himself.
“Brynn, you’ll never outshine me!” Kylie said, her voice a mix of hatred and triumph.
Brynn just shook her head, feeling utterly speechless. She had no idea what Kylie was so proud of. She shook her head slightly and left without looking back.

Once they walked out of the Everett Group building, Brynn turned to Jenna, “I just pulled you out like that, and you’re okay with it?”
“I’ve been wanting to leave for a while. Kylie fired me, but at least I get a month’s pay for nothing,” Jenna laughed. “Mrs. Johnson, if you ever open a studio, you have to take me with you.
“Sure, let’s talk when I figure things out,” Brynn said.
Jenna could tell Brynn was a bit distracted, probably because of what Kylie had said about her real parents, so she made an excuse to leave.
Brynn stood under the tall building and couldn’t help but look up at the sky. “Should I go see him?”
After all, he was her real father. Just as she was thinking this, a scream came from the distance. “Ah! What are you doing? Robbery!”
The scream snapped Brynn out of her thoughts, and she ran toward the source.
She saw a woman who looked a bit like her struggling with a helmeted man over a bag.
Brynn was dazed for a moment but quickly rushed over. “Let go!”
She swung the bag in her hand and hit the helmeted man. When he didn’t let go, she took off her high heel and threw it at him.
“Ah!” The man screamed in pain as the shoe hit his hand, and he instinctively dropped the bag.
Brynn handed the bag back to the middle–aged woman and gently said, “Ma’am, I got your wallet back. Are you… okay?”
Before Brynn could finish her comforting words, the seemingly gentle woman kicked the helmeted man’s butt.
She kept kicking and cursing, “You jerk! How dare you rob me? Do you have a death wish?”
Brynn stood there, dumbfounded and swallowing hard. She thought, ‘What a fierce woman!‘
