Chapter 56
Just then, a patrol officer happened to pass by. The helmeted man, seeing this, quickly called for help.
“Help! I robbed this woman. Arrest me!” he shouted.
The patrol officer was stunned. He’d seen robbers run away, but never one who turned themselves in. This guy must have some screws loose.
Three minutes later, the helmeted robber walked away with the patrol officer, looking oddly cheerful.

The woman relaxed her fists and warmly shook Brynn’s hand. “Thank you, dear. I don’t know what I would have done without you today.”
“Don’t mention it. That’s what I should do,” Brynn said, thinking that the woman probably could have handled it herself even without her help. After all, she was quite tough.
“Oh dear, it’s getting late. I need to bring lunch to my husband, the woman said, glancing at her watch and getting anxious. “I have to run. Nice talking to you.
She tried to hail a taxi on the street, but after waving her hand for a while, she still couldn’t get one.
Brynn, who had nothing much to do that day, stepped forward and offered, “Nowadays, everyone uses ride–sharing apps. How about I give you a ride?”
“Oh. I couldn’t possibly impose on you. It might take up too much of your time,” the woman said.
I’m not busy today either,” Brynn replied, taking out her phone to order a ride. “Ma’am, where are you headed?”
“Saint Mercy Hospital,” the woman said, letting out a sigh. “My husband had a car accident and broke his leg. Not only that, but he’s got all these complications now. He’s in and out of the hospital all the time.”
Bryan thought, Wait. A car accident and a broken leg? And this woman looks a bit like me…
Brynn paused, a wild thought crossing her mind. “Ma’am, how did your husband get into the car accident?” she asked casually.
The woman, unaware of anything unusual, replied bluntly, “Every family has its issues. My husband got hurt trying to save our ungrateful daughter. But she won’t come to see him. My son says she’s busy, but I’m not stupid. I know she just doesn’t
want to.”
Brynn stood there, completely stunned. ‘He got hurt trying to save his daughter and he has a son. So this woman in front of me is actually my real mother?‘ she wondered.
She had imagined meeting the Blaze family in all sorts of ways, but never like this.
Watching Brenda Blaze talk incessantly, Brynn wanted to ask why the Blaze family hadn’t come to find her, but she was afraid the answer would hurt.
“Miss?” Brenda’s call brought Brynn back to reality.
She steadied herself and forced a smile. “Ma’am, thinking about my parents made me zone out for a bit. The ride to th hospital is on its way. It should be here in about three minutes.”
Seeing Brynn’s dazed expression, Brenda couldn’t help but picture a poor girl who didn’t get much family love. Her gaze softened with sympathy.
‘What a nice girl. If only she could be my daughter, thought Brenda.

Chapter 56
The old and the young, each with their own thoughts, got into the taxi. Soon, they arrived at the hospital entrance,
Brenda was about to go in by herself, but Brynn insisted on seeing her off all the way inside.
Though the Blaze family hadn’t reached out to her, hearing that Paul Blaze was seriously ill, Brynn still felt a bit worried, perhaps due to their blood bond.
“Thank you so much for accompanying me…” Brenda kept expressing her gratitude as they walked toward the ward. But before she could finish, a commotion came from the corridor ahead, and they could hear Paul’s voice.
Brenda rushed forward and saw a doctor in a doctor’s gown directing two security guards to move Paul out of the ward.
“What are you doing?” Brenda quickly rushed to block Paul and pulled the guards‘ hands off him.
“Are you alright, Paul?” Brenda looked at her husband with concern.
Paul, lying on the ground, winced and shook his head slightly. “I’m okay. Don’t worry.”
The doctor couldn’t help but sneer, “What do you think I’m doing? Kicking you out, of course!”
“You are a doctor. How can you throw a patient out of the ward like this?” Brenda glared at the doctor.
The doctor rolled his eyes. “You didn’t pay the bill. We don’t treat poor people here. Get out!”
