Chapter 58
“You can dream on! Even if my husband dies, I won’t let you have your way!”
Before Brynn could say anything, Brenda wiped her tears and firmly refused.

The doctor, frustrated by the constant interruptions, snapped in anger. “You old hag, don’t be ungrateful! Me taking a liking to your daughter is a favor to her!”
“Screw you!” Brenda exploded, slapping the doctor so hard that he staggered to the side.
She had finally seen through him–this so–called doctor was nothing but a scumbag with filth in his eyes.
Who knew? He might even be a quack trying to fool them!
“Miss, you should leave. I’ll figure something out for my husband,” Brenda said as she opened the hospital room door.
The doctor, still unwilling to give up, tried to step forward, but Brenda slapped him again, sending him stumbling back.
Seeing her push him away, Brynn quickly grabbed Brenda’s wrist.
“Wait! I might be able to—”
“Miss, I know you’re kind, but you really shouldn’t get involved in this mess-”
“Ma’am, I’m saying I might be able to save him!” Brynn raised her voice, cutting her off. “I practice traditional medicine. Let me try!”
“…What?”
Brenda froze in place.
The doctor, still clutching his stinging face, sneered. “Kid, you read a few medical articles online and think you can cure heart disease? What a joke!”
Brynn ignored him and looked at Brenda sincerely. “Ma’am, do you trust me?”
Brenda hesitated. But at this point, there was no one else who could help. She had no choice but to gamble on this last shred of hope.
Gritting her teeth, she nodded. “I trust you. No matter the outcome, I can accept it.”
“Tsk tsk, what a pair of idiots.”
Having had enough, the doctor shoved them aside, flung open the door, and yelled to the two security guards outside, “Get in here and throw these three out!”
“What are you doing!”
Brenda grabbed the doctor’s arm, glaring at him. “She’s trying to save my husband! If you kick us out now, aren’t you sentencing him to death?!”
“Lady, do you really believe a little girl can save your husband?” The doctor smirked in disdain. “If you want him to die, at least don’t do it in our hospital!”
“How do
you
know it won’t work if you don’t even try?” Brynn snapped, growing angry. “Can’t you just wait a little while?”
“No,” the doctor said coldly. “Now get out!”

Brenda stood her ground, blocking the guards from entering the room.
The doctor immediately started cursing, and Brynn immediately cursed back.

The commotion quickly escalated, attracting the attention of the hospital’s Director, who happened to be passing by.
When he glanced over, his eyes widened in shock.
“Wait… isn’t that the First Lady?”
Just to be sure, the Director took off his glasses, wiped them, and looked again. The face in front of him was identical to the one in the photo his brother–in–law, the mayor, had shown him.
It really was the First Lady!
Alarmed, the Director hurried over. “What’s going on here? What’s all the noise about?”
He shoved the doctor aside, and the security guards immediately backed off upon seeing him.
Standing before Brynn, the Director straightened his posture and respectfully asked, “Ma’am, may I ask what’s happening here? Is there anything I can do to assist you?”
The mayor had made it clear–under no circumstances should he reveal her identity.
“I…”
“Dr. Caldwell, it’s them causing trouble!” The doctor cut in before Brynn could speak. “They’ve been staying in our hospital but refuse to pay their medical bills. I was just asking the security guards to escort them out, but they started making a scene and even insulted me!”
Hearing this, Dr. Caldwell nearly had a heart attack.
What? His hospital’s doctor tried to throw the First Lady’s father out?
Was this man trying to shut down the entire hospital?
“SMACK!”
Without hesitation, the Director spun around and slapped the doctor across the face.
Stunned, the doctor held his cheek, looking at him in disbelief. “D–Director… why?”
Why the slap?
“Idiot!” Dr. Caldwell roared. “As a doctor, how dare you treat a patient like this?! Our hospital has no place for someone as unethical as you–you’re fired!”
“What?” The doctor’s eyes widened in shock. “Director, I didn’t do anything wrong! They really did owe—”
“Shut up!”
Dr. Caldwell cut him off immediately and turned back to Brynn with an apologetic expression. “I’m terribly sorry. Our hospital’s doctor has caused you unnecessary trouble.”
Brynn waved a hand dismissively. She hadn’t expected the hospital’s Director to be this reasonable.
Brenda, relieved that the Director was a fair man, quickly clarified, “Dr. Caldwell, this young lady isn’t my daughter. She just happened to bring me here.”

A hint of disappointment flashed in the Dr. Caldwell’s eyes, but he maintained his courteous attitude,
“That doesn’t matter. Treating patients is our hospital’s duty” He smiled. “Don’t worry—I’ll personally oversee your husband’s treatment, and the medical expenses will be fully covered”
