Chapter 12
Walter suddenly realized everything. All of Lucille’s strange behavior over the past few weeks hit him at once like a tidal wave. >
Ayrton was silent too.
Lucille must have been planning her departure for over a month now!
Was Claire’s influence on her really that significant?
Just as he thought of Claire, his phone buzzed with her call.
“Walter, Ayrton, I’m already at the diner waiting for you guys. We agreed on a celebratory dinner, remember? Where are you?”
Walter held the phone, unable to respond for a moment.!!
After a long pause, he finally spoke in a hoarse voice, “Claire, let’s skip the dinner for now. We’ll talk later”
With Lucille gone, what was the point of celebrating?
Ayrton remained quiet, staring at the shattered phone on the floor, lost in his thoughts..
Suddenly, a familiar face, Paul, approached, leading a man in a gray coat
“Sir, about this house…”
Paul was trying his best to pitch the house’s features to the man in the gray
Seeing Ayrton and Walter there, Paul was taken aback.
coat.
“Mr. Lewis, Mr. Quinn, what are you doing here? Wasn’t the house already sold? You…”
Paul seemed worried, peeking inside to see if the belongings had been cleared out.”
“No need to sell the house. I’m buying it,” Ayrton stated firmly.
Paul was so surprised that he thought he was hearing things. He opened his mouth but was at a loss for words.
After a long pause, he tentatively asked, “Mr. Lewis, you’re not joking, are you?”
“Of course not. Let’s sign the contract.”
Ayrton’s expression was resolute, his tone unwavering.
Hearing the words “sign the contract, Paul’s face lit up with a smile, and he nodded enthusiastically.
“Alright, alright. Just sign here.”
Ayrton quickly skimmed the contract, and once he confirmed everything was in order, he signed his name without hesitation.
Walter didn’t contest it. The important thing was to keep the house from falling into someone else’s hands. After all, their friendship was close enough that moving in would just be a matter of saying the word.
This house held so many of their memories. If Lucille had moved with them to Whispering Villa, this place wouldn’t have mattered as much Because having each other was what truly counted.!!
But now, with her gone, they couldn’t bear the thought of losing even the memories.
Late into the night, the two of them sat on the floor of the old house.
The place was empty, everything had been moved out. What couldn’t be moved had been hauled away and discarded. Everything of Lucille’s was gone.
Ayrton and Walter felt an overwhelming loneliness.”
When Lucille was around, they always had endless things to talk about, always coming up with ways to make her smile.
But now, with only the two of them left, they just sat there, looking at each other, with no desire to even
