Chapter 16
Lucille didn’t even hesitate. “No way Axelvale City is where my family is. Sea City.. I’m so over it”)
Ayrton flashed a quick smile before his expression turned icy once more.
“Lucille, you’ll regret this. You’ll come crawling back to us!”
“No need,” Lucille replied firmly. “I won’t give you that chance.“!
Stephen flicked his fingers, and his team of bodyguards swiftly gagged Ayrton and Walter, binding their hands and feet before tossing them into the helicopter.
Stephen felt a twinge of anxiety as his new wife witnessed this ruthless side of him.!!
“Lucille, does it scare you to see me like this?” he asked, a bit uncertain.
Stephen had clawed his way to the top of the Grant family not by being gentle, but he didn’t want Lucille to see this side of him. Lucille looked at Stephen, and in that moment, she felt the gap between them shrink considerably.
She shook her head with a soft smile. “Not at all. I think you handled it perfectly.”!!
Getting rid of two nuisances was definitely a good thing.!!
Lucille hadn’t expected Ayrton and Walter to follow her here. In her mind, without her in the picture, they’d be free to pursue Claire openly. They all lived together, so it seemed inevitable. Especially since Claire seemed interested too
Lucille thought to herself that they were just not used to her absence yet.
Even a photograph kept around for a few years becomes hard to let go of. So it’s only natural to feel unsettled when someone you’ve been around for over twenty years suddenly leaves.
But with enough time, anyone can adapt.
Lucille followed Stephen home.
In the helicopter, the roaring engine matched the chaos in Ayrton and Walter’s minds. What exactly had they accomplished coming here? They were just a step too late. How could Lucille have gotten married so quickly?
They remembered how she’d react when they’d subtly hinted at their feelings–she’d been so flustered and confused. How could Ayrton and Walter not see her dilemma? Choosing one would mean deeply wounding the other.!!
Lucille was torn, she didn’t want to hurt either of her childhood friends. That’s why she’d delayed making any decision. Sometimes she even thought it might be better to remain friends. Maybe that was enough, since her feelings for either of them hadn’t reached a point of true love.
Ayrton and Walter understood this too. They didn’t want to jeopardize what they had.
So, they decided to push Lucille a bit.
Conveniently, Claire appeared around that time.
Her attempts at deception were clumsy, and it didn’t take much digging to learn her background wasn’t as impoverished as she claimed. Claire had grown up in a small village, with parents working away from home. Though they favored boys, they still supported Claire through college and even paid for her to learn painting and design.
When she got to college, Claire registered her residence with the school. After graduation, she borrowed a large sum from her family and cut ties with them completely. Then she latched onto Lucille in her professional life.
Ayrton and Walter only intended to use her as a decoy, hoping to make Lucille realize her feelings, get a bit jealous, and finally choose
between them.X
