Chapter 23
Claire had stubbornly knelt outside the mansion for an entire day and night before she finally couldn’t hold on any longer and fainted.
When she came to, Ayrton and Walter were nowhere in sight. She was back in her own rented apartment
Outside, she could hear Simon and Ariana talking.)
“We should just head home today. We can’t stay here any longer. Claire won’t listen, She’s got legs and is bound to run off again. Let’s make a move while she’s still out cold,” Ariana said urgently
Simon nodded in agreement, muttering a quick “Alright.”
The door swung open, and Claire, with all the speed she could muster, bolted outside, not even bothering to put on her shoes but making sure to grab her phone.
Claire was at a loss for whom to tum to Ayrton and Walter were both so indifferent. In her panic, she suddenly remembered Lucille.
“Yes! She’s so kind and soft–hearted. She’ll definitely forgive me!” Claire thought with a glimmer of hope. So, she hopped on the next train to Axelvale City to find Lucille.!!
Ayrton and Walter got wind of her plan and hurried to have people intercept Claire in Axelvale City, determined to prevent her from seeing Lucille.
After all, if they hadn’t had the chance to see Lucille, there was no way they’d let Claire beat them to it.
They had discovered several groups sent by Stephen to keep an eye on them. But this was Sea City, their territory, and they held the reins here.
Walter, rather brazenly, sent his men to rough up Stephen’s spies, sending them back to the Grant family as a warning.!
Ayrton wasn’t idle either, he planted his own people in Axelvale City.l
This way, they wouldn’t be caught
off guard like last time when they went there.
It was the fifth time Ayrton and Walter had come to Fiona’s house to apologize.!!
“Aunt Fiona, we truly know we were wrong. We’ve come to terms with it and have let go of any hopes regarding Lucille. We just want to attend her wedding as her brothers, nothing more,” Ayrton said, practically biting back the words.
Walter nodded emphatically, trying to muster the most innocent expression he could.X
“Aunt Fiona, please grant us this small wish. We’ve known Lucille for so long; we can’t bear the thought of missing her wedding. We’re prepared for the fact that we can’t be with her. Even if it weren’t Stephen, one of us would have been left out if she had to choose between Ayrton and me.”
“We just don’t want to miss her wedding. Aunt Fiona, please, can you help us out? Walter pleaded.”
Fiona looked at them, feeling quite torn. She was aware, more or less, of what they’d done in the past. And she knew Lucille’s feelings weren’t something she could control.
But she’d watched Ayrton and Walter grow up, and her heart softened despite herself.
They had come to her for help several times already. Even the hardest heart would have trouble holding out forever.
Fiona heaved a deep sigh. “Oh, you two… I can only promise to ask Lucille. Whether she agrees or not, I can’t guarantee.”
Relieved, Ayrton and Walter quickly expressed their gratitude. “Thank you. Just hearing you say that is enough. We appreciate it.
After seeing them off, Fiona spent a long time deliberating before finally sending Lucille a message.
[Ayrton and Walter said they want to attend your wedding. What do you think, Lucille? Should we let them?]
