Chapter 16
I made a phone call anxiously and, after confirming that Scott’s compensation had not been settled, I breathed a sigh of relief.
It seems that Reed didn’t know how to make some money, but he managed to pay the tuition first.
When Reed went to the cafeteria at noon, he proudly told his classmates that he had treated them to lunch today.
The classmates couldn’t believe it, after all, just two days ago he was borrowing money everywhere.
Reed said that he had a relative who sponsored him some money, and today’s meal was meant to apologize to his classmates.
I knew Reed for ten years, and he had a ghostly relative whose father gambled so much that even the dogs wouldn’t come home!
Kolton didn’t believe it and tentatively ordered a portion of braised pork. Reed really paid the bill without hesitation. Seeing this, the other classmates also joined in and almost finished all the meat dishes in the cafeteria.
Reed was not angry either, following behind dozens of classmates and swiping his card, with a hint of smile at the corner of his mouth.
“Did I see it wrong? Is that confident Mr. Fuller back again?”
“Hahaha, I also had that illusion!”
A meal brought Reed and his classmates closer.
After dinner, he became everyone’s good friend again!
There were a few classmates who didn’t dare to eat his food, and we sat on the side watching them revel, feeling disdainful of this group of snobs.
Reed suddenly became very wealthy and even wanted to give me a bracelet. I was really scared, who knows where he got the dirty money from, and if it would implicate me!
That day, Rebecca was in class when the police suddenly paid a visit.
“Rebecca, we had some matters to ask Reed about, could you please bring him out?”
We stretched our necks, but we still couldn’t hear the conversation outside.
“Kolton, what’s going on? Did Reed get into trouble?”
“I didn’t know, but my uncle has been busy with online lending recently. Did Reed start an online lending business?”
“You’re silly, why would he apply for an online loan when he was underage! Besides, online loans are for debt collection, not for the police!”
We made many guesses, but we had no clue.
Two days had passed, and Reed still hadn’t returned.
Rebecca had someone move her desk to the corner and she gave us a lesson on intèrnet security, urging us to protect ourselves and not easily lend money online for others.
We finally understood the whole story. Reed, together with Keira, deceived a high school senior from another school to borrow money online. The girl couldn’t bear the pressure from the debt collectors and jumped off a building.
After Keira transferred schools, she met a group of friends who used to bully a girl. That girl had low self–esteem.
Reed was short of money at the time, and Keira came up with an idea for him. She suggested that Reed go and care for that girl, and she even arranged a heroic rescue for him. The girl was finally moved and agreed to borrow money for him.
But Reed was unscrupulous, she made that girl borrow money, and not just from one platform. The high interest rates were impossible for the girl to repay.
After the repayment deadline, the debt collector threatened her with nude photos. She went to find Reed, only to discover that he was with Keira, who had been bullying her.
The light in her life finally went out, as she had been suffering from depression, and in utter despair, she jumped off the building.
Now Reed and Keira have been detained. It is said that the girl’s parents have refused to reconcile and are determined to take the lives of the two.
A few days later, Reed’s mother came to pack his things. She hobbled and looked much older than when I last saw her in the previous life.
I still remember Reed’s face back then. “My mom needs a top–notch orthopedic surgeon, as usual, you pay and then disappear, I don’t want her to know that I’m using someone else’s money!”

Then she was arranged into the top VIP ward, when I went to see her, she held Keira’s hand and laughed heartily, “Good child, only you deserve my son!”
Well, her judgment was pretty good. They spent their whole lives in prison together.
