His eyes
were slightly red as he spoke in a hoarse voice. “Why did you block me?”
My thoughts drifted back to the day I had deleted our chat history and blocked him. I said, Luther, I already told you that we’re divorced. I’ve also resigned from your company. Why are you here?”
Upon hearing those words, he swallowed as if he were trying to suppress his emotions.
He then admitted remorsefully, “Our divorce was my fault. I misunderstood you, and I impulsively signed the divorce papers.
“I’ve looked into what happened with the project. It was wrong of me to accuse you. I shouldn’t have been so rash to assume it was you. I’m sorry. Can you give me another chance?
I looked at him with scorn. From the time we had signed the divorce application to the 30- day cooling–off period, he’d had many chances to reconsider.
He didn’t realize that the reason I wanted a divorce wasn’t because of his baseless
accusations about the project. That had merely been the last straw that had broken the seven years we had been a couple five of which we had spent married to each other.
The truth was, his heart had strayed from me long ago.

“Do you seriously think I wanted a divorce because you made me hand over the project to Sasha or because you accused me of pretending to be innocent while scheming behind your back?” I questioned.
Luther’s face contorted with pain.
I continued, “The moment you chose to leave me
someone with claustrophobia-
trapped in an elevator so you could deliver cold medicine to Sasha, I decided to divorce you.

He knew about my claustrophobia. I had once accidentally gotten locked in the storage room for hours. He had held me tightly, crying and vowing never to let me face such danger again. He had even removed the storage room door as a precaution.
But later, he had abandoned me without hesitation for another woman.
Luther tried to plead with me. “I’m sorry, Tabby… I thought you would have called someone else for help. I didn’t know you fainted and ended up being stuck in there for so long.
“We’ve been together for so many years. Can you just let go of our seven years together?
“I thought you were throwing a tantrum when you asked for a divorce. I figured you’d calm

down in a few days, and we could withdraw the application. I never thought we’d divorce for real.”
It was always the same. Luther expected me to wait for him and process all those negative feelings on my own. He took my forgiveness for granted and expected me to just move on from all the hurt he had inflicted.
But why should I be the one to swallow my emotions?
“I’m not going back with you. Please leave,” I said resolutely, wiping my hands. I refused to say even one more word to him because I was utterly disgusted by his presence.
Yet, Luther didn’t leave.
For days, he sat in the café where I worked. He silently watched me as I brewed coffee or waited by my apartment door.
Every morning, he sent me large bouquets of flowers. Looking at the growing pile of flowers at my doorstep, I realized it had been a long time since he had last given me flowers. He didn’t even remember what kind of flowers I liked anymore.
Luther tried to insert himself into my life at every turn.
One evening, I returned home to find him standing at my doorstep yet again. He held about a dozen cups of pumpkin spice latte in his hands, looking both absurd and pathetic.
When he saw me, his face lit up with a hopeful, ingratiating smile. He looked like a dog wagging its tail, desperate for a pat.
“Tabby, I bought you the first cup of pumpkin spice latte for the fall. I bought you a dozen because I know how much you like them.”
I stared at the drinks and remembered that I had asked him to buy me a cup of pumpkin spice latte last fall due to a social media trend back then.
But what had he said back then? “Come on, Tabitha. Do you realize how old you are? Why are you still chasing childish trends like this? Don’t you find it disgusting?”
Yet later, I saw on his social media that he had bought ten cups of pumpkin spice latte for Sasha, along with the first piece of cake and the first candied apple for the fall season.
The memory made my stomach turn. I threw all the lattes into the trash can. Luther thought he was being romantic, but all he was doing was disrupting my life.
I told him off. “Enough. I don’t need all of these things. All I want is for you to stop disturbing me.
Luther’s face paled upon hearing my harsh words.

This annoying routine didn’t last long because Sasha showed up one fine day. She begged, “Mr. Jansen, you should go home with me.”
Luther grew flustered and hurriedly tried to distance himself from her. “Tabby, I swear I have nothing to do with her anymore. After I found out the truth, I reassigned her to another department. I can fire her immediately if that’s what you want.”
Sasha hadn’t expected him to be so heartless.
Hurt flashed across her face as she wailed, “Luther, you’re just unwilling to let go of all those years you spent with Tabitha. But deep down, I know you love me. Otherwise, you wouldn’t have left her to deliver the cold medicine to me, right?”
