Chapter 4
That night, Luna developed a high fever.
Samuel still hadn’t come back. She was burning up and felt weak all over, not even having the strength to call 911. She managed to force herself up and found some fever–reducing medicine, which she swallowed with water.
The fever–reducing medicine didn’t take effect so quicldy. She lay back in bed and felt her whole body burning hot, extremely uncomfortable. She didn’t know how long had passed until she finally fell into a deep sleep.
A whole day and night passed, and she finally recovered from the fever and finally heard the sound of the door opening.
Samuel walked in from the door, without looking at her, he didn’t mention the fact that he didn’t go to pick her up, he just silently packed his luggage. He continued to do so until everything was properly packed, and only then did he finally give her a glance, as if it was a small act of kindness,
“Ella was not feeling well. I will go and keep her company these days. If you need anything, please call me while you are alone at home.”
Luna chuckled self–deprecatingly as she watched him finish spealing and leave without hesitation,
Was calling useful? She stood in front of him with a pale face, and he didn’t even notice that she was sick. Could she still hope for him to leave Ella and come back to her?
In the following days, Samuel really did not come back and did not call her
Luna, however, was well aware of his whereabouts, after all, he had Ella by his side, who loved to share life.
She could see what they had been doing every day from Ella’s Instagram, such as him cooking porridge and peeling shrimp for her, such as him talking. her out to relax and watch fireworks
Luna didn’t pay much attention to what they did, and after taking care of her health, she resigned from the company.
“Luna, why do you suddenly want to resign? Did something happen?” Colleagues who received the news were all surprised, but she shook her head and explained.
“After so many years outside, It’s time for me to return to my own home
This explanation, however, made colleagues even more confused. In the end, someone couldn’t help but ask, “What about Samuel? His family is right here in this city. If you go back to your city, wouldn’t it become a long–distance relationship?”
Luna was slightly stunned. You see, all her friends knew that she loved Samuel, loved him enough to give up everything for him and settle in this unfamiliar city. She loved him to the extent that everyone instinctively felt that this relationship could only be sustained by her efforts.
But he, on the other hand, took her efforts for granted and then gave all his parience and tenderness to someone else.
She shook her head with a smile and said, “It’s not a long–distance relationship, it’s that we will never see each other again in the future.”
After finishing the handover of work, she packed up all her belongings and went home with her suitcase. As soon as she entered the door, she saw Samuel and Ella sitting in the living room.
“What is this?” He was taken aback when he saw her coming back with a box, and instinctively blurted out the question.
She spoke calmly, effortlessly weaving lies, with no trace of panic on her face as if it hadn’t been shattered: “The company relocated, so I just brought the things back firL”
“Where did you move
to?”
Samuel frowned. Luna was about to speak, but was interrupted by Ella’s sudden interjection.
“Luna, I’ve been feeling terrible lately since my father passed away. I’ve made a lot of mistakes and even had the idea of having a child with Samuel, which now seems absurd. But nothing ever happened between me and Samuel, and now that my father is gone, I don’t need to have a child anymore. l’in sorry, please don’t take it in heart!” ·
She made a pitiful look, and if Luna had never received the screenshot of the chat record full of provocation, maybe she would have really believed it
However, now she didn’t have the mood to expose Ella’s little tricks. She just nodded lightly and took the box back to her room.
Just as Luna had finished putting things away, she heard her phone ring, but the sound was coming from the living room.
She realized that her phone had been left in the living room, and just as she was about to go and get it, the door was suddenly pushed open. Immediately atter, she was met with Samuel’s gloomy face, holding her phone in one hand and staring at her intently
“Who was the husband in your phone?”
